Island Weather

Today is one of those Island days where you never know what the weather will be like from one moment to the next. I started the day, earlier than planned, with my hubby waking me up to tell me it looked like rain. This is his way of saying “please drive me to work so I don’t get wet riding my scooter”. By the time we were walking out the door, it actually was raining…until we got the the next “block” (in the country that means about half a kilometre), then it stopped. By the time we got to town, it was a beautiful, sunny morning, with nary a drop of water on the road. Go figure!

I did my morning Wal-Mart shop and headed back home, via Cherry Point. Mount Baker was, unfortunately, hidden by the clouds that hung in large patches throughout the sky, but the herons were there, standing guard at the edge of the water. Low tide is mid-morning today, so the tidal flats stretched for quite a ways.

A friend of mine dropped by with her dog and we chatted over coffee while she tossed the ball out as far as her ball thrower would send it. I feel left out sometimes, not having a dog, but for now, I’m happy with a fairly self-sufficient cat.

We parted ways, my friend and I, and I headed home. Although I have been home for over a week, I still haven’t gotten back into the groove of things. Today I have decided to finally stop procrastinating, and plan to organize my office. As you can see by my blogging, I am still not 100% motivated.

I will leave you with two pictures that I took this week with my 650-1300mm lens. Both were taken at 650mm f/8; though I am not sure what the shutter speed was for either of them. One is of Mt. Baker (taken from Cherry Point) and the other is of a rufous hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus) at my back feeder. I hope you enjoy.

Talk to you soon.
