We woke early this morning and grabbed coffees at 7-Eleven before heading south on US-97 towards Klamath Falls. Although we took this highway in 2012 and again last year, I had forgotten how boring the first 200 km of the trip was. It is a straight road with no curves and barely any hills. The posted speed limit is 55 mph, but luckily the flow of traffic was going closer to 70. Just before we got to Klamath Falls, we saw flocks of American White Pelican by the shores of Upper Klamath Lake. We also passed by several Great Egret next to the Klamath River.
At Klamath Falls, we headed west towards Ashland on Oregon SR-66. This is a very quiet highway, which is probably due to the windiness of the road, but I found it a nice change from the monotony of US-97. I am pretty sure that Mum didn’t enjoy it as much as I did, but she survived unscathed.
When we got into Ashland, it was too early to check in so we fought through the downtown traffic and found a place to park in Lithia Park so we could have a picnic lunch of leftovers. After lunch, we headed back downtown and found (fought for) a parking spot near the city center. We inquired as to where the theatre was and then walked around looking at the various street vendors. As we still had some time to kill before we could check in, we had a drink at one of the outside restaurants. I had a pint of porter and Mum had a hot chocolate.
We finished off our beverages and then headed to the hotel where we chilled for a bit before heading out to dinner. I hadn’t preplanned anything for today so we just walked next door to The Wild Goose. Mum had a shrimp quesadilla and I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries.
At seven we headed back downtown, found parking (I parallel parked!!!), and headed to the theatre. We saw Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing – a play that neither Mum nor I had read before. It was definitely not the Shakespeare I am used to. From the rainbow toe socks worn by Benedict to the segue ridden by the Master at Arms, it was enjoyable from start to finish.
But now I will bid you all a good night and leave you with a photo I snuck of the stage.
Thank you for reading and I will talk to you all tomorrow.
